About Us
The Community Awareness and Prevention Association (C.A.P.A.), formerly, the Chemical Abuse Prevention Association (C.A.P.A.) is a 501c3 that was founded in 1989 to prevent and intervene in drug and alcohol abuse in the Brecksville-Broadview Heights schools and communities.
It is a unique collaboration between the cities of Brecksville and Broadview Heights and the Brecksville-Broadview Heights City School District.
The majority of funding for C.A.P.A.'s programs, services and staff salaries comes from community partners and grants.
A coalition of representatives from the schools and community organizations provides broad-spectrum guidance and oversight of the association.
C.A.P.A.'s chairperson is the Brecksville-Broadview Heights schools' Director of Curriculum and Instruction, Dr. Carla Calevich. Day-to-day programming is overseen by staff members: C.A.P.A. Coordinator / Program Director: Kelly Lazar, Community Liaison: Jennifer Zisk-Vitron, and School/Community Assistant: Debbi Serraglio.
C.A.P.A.'s Advisory Board provides advice and expertise on the administration of C.A.P.A.'s programs and wide-ranging services and suggests coordination between groups, individuals, and organizations within the schools and community at large.
C.A.P.A. offers both school-based and community-based programming. For a complete listing of all of C.A.P.A.'s school-based programming, visit the In-School Programs section of this Web site. For a complete listing of community programs and events, visit the Community section of this Web site.
