The Brain: Understanding Neurobiology Through The Study of Addiction
The Brain: Understanding Neurobiology Through the Study of Addiction was developed by the National Institures of Health. The curriculum consists of interactive teaching units which combine cutting-edge science research discoveries from the NIH, one of the world's foremost medical research centers, with state-of-the-art instructional materials.
The Brain is a high school based curriculum that is taught in all biology classes. The lesson plans provide the framework for both the hands-on classroom activities and the Web-based multimedia activities that make up this curriculum supplement. It explores the fundamentals of neurobiology, and teaches how drugs of abuse change the brain. Students learn that drug addiction is a treatable, chronic brain disease.
Students study data, brain images and case studies in order to learn about the impact of drugs on our brains.
