RESPECT Program
The Brecksville-Broadview Heights High School RESPECT club planned, developed and facilitated an assembly on dating violence that was conducted on Friday, February 4th, 2011. Students in attendance learned about the Cycle of Dating Violence, what to do if you are a victim and how to be an "upstander" if you recognize symptoms of dating violence among friends or family members. The multi-media presentation was capped off by an originally composed song that was performed by lead singer Tess Steven's of Click on picture to view video

Shaun Livingston on the guitar.
The RESPECT program is an exciting student leadership club for current 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th grade students. Respect is a program offered through Akron Children’s Hospital as an initiative to prevent dating violence and to train high school students to serve as ambassadors who will then help connect other students who are facing difficult issues with guidance counselors and other resources.
Members of this group must attend a full day training held at Akron Children's Hospital. The training included information on dating violence, suicide prevention, and healthy relationships.
According to Melissa McClain, Program Coordinator for dating violence prevention at Akron Childrens' Hospital, one of every three teen relationships is affected by verbal, emotional or sexual abuse. Abuse can range from name calling and coercion to physical abuse and rape. And with advances in technology, that abuse can also be done digitally through text messages or over the Internet.
